As already indicated the primary structure to give direction to, and provide the financial underpinnings for the Bernoulli Edition was the "Otto Spiess Foundation": Otto Spiess-Stiftung zur Herausgabe der Werke der Basler Mathematiker Bernoullli, established by Spiess and endowed by the bequest designated by Spiess for that purpose. The Foundation is administered by a Curatorium established in accordance with the testamentory will of Spiess. At the time of writing, the Curatorium members are J. L. von Planta, and D. Speiser. The revenue from the Spiess bequest has contributed to funding the salaries of two collaborators to the Editions as well as covering other minorexpenses. By the mid-eighties it was recognized by thoseb concerned with the project that the Bernoulli Edition would benefit from an Executive Council to serve as an overall supervisory agency for the project. In keeping with this aim, there was first formed in 1987 the "Verein zur Förderung der Bernoulli-Edition"a society of paying members who volunteer to collect funds in support of the project. The society functions through the Governing Board of the Förderverein, known as the "Vorstand". Since 1987 most of the policy decisions and practical deliberations have been made by the Vorstand of the Fördervereinessentially operating as an Executive Council. The operating officers executing the decisions of the Executive Council are as follows: Prof. Dr. P. Radelet-de Grave, General Editor Dr. F. Nagel, Editor responsible for Correspondence (Briefwechsel) Dr. B. Gaino-Marcq, Assistant Lic. phil. S. Gehr, Assistant The permanent delegate from the Naturforschenden Gesellschaft in Basel to the Bernoulli Edition is Prof. H. J. Güntherodt, who has formal responsibility for editing the volumes for the Bernoulli Edition. The Vorstand has further established an International Advisory Council, "Wissenschaftlicher Beirat". As the Bernoulli Edition evolves so does the support structure to meet the changing requirements. Subsequent to the reorganization of 1982, there was established an honorary Committee of Patrons. The purpose was to give a broader base of support to the Bernoulli Edition whose task was now recognized to be significantly greater than previously conceived. The Committee is composed of eminent Swiss citizens and members of the wider scientific community who have served the Bernoulli Edition with great merit. The Committee of Patrons aims to promote the Bernoulli Edition by all means at its disposal. More recently a new structure was given to the edition, organising the different paticipants and an Editionskommission was established.
