A new look at an old mass relation

Résumé:
|
New data from neutrino oscillation experiments motivate us to extend a successful mass relation for the charged leptons to the other fundamental fermions. This new universal relation requires a Dirac mass around 3 10^{-2} eV for the lightest neutrino and rules out a maximal atmospheric mixing. It also suggests a specific decomposition of the CKM mixing matrix.

Fast directional correlation on the sphere with steerable filters
|
|
Références:

Astrophysical J. (2005) submitted
|
|
Résumé:
|
An exact fast algorithm is developed for the directional correlation of
band-limited signals and steerable filters on the sphere. First, the
directional correlation is expressed as an inverse Wigner D-functions
transform on the rotation group SO(3). The separation of variables technique
is recalled, which reduces the corresponding asymptotic complexity from
O(L^5) to O(L^4), where 2L stands for the square-root of the number of
sampling points on the sphere, also setting a band limit L for the signals
considered. Second, the filter steerability gives explicitly the directional
correlation in terms of standard correlations. The standard correlation is
expressed as a sum of inverse spin-weighted spherical harmonics transforms on
the sphere. The separation of variables reduces the corresponding asymptotic
complexity of standard and directional correlations to O(L^3). For steerable
filters with low azimuthal angular band limit, a simple O(L^2 log2^2 L)
algorithm is achieved, based on the Driscoll and Healy fast scalar spherical
harmonics transform. Finally, these generic results for the scale-space
signal processing on the sphere are specifically developed in the perspective
of the wavelet analysis of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) temperature
(T ) and polarization (E and B) anisotropies. In this context, computation
times for the directional correlation of megapixels all-sky maps from the
ongoing WMAP or the forthcoming Planck Surveyor satellite missions are
typically reduced from years to seconds on a single standard computer, and
thus made easily affordable.

Radiative Kaon Decays and the Penguin Contribution to the $Delta I$ = 1/2 Rule

Nuclear Physics B730 (2005) pp. 1-36
|
|
Résumé:
|
A consistent census of penguins in the $Delta I$ = 1/2 rule is taken from the $eta_0$ pole contribution to the radiative $K_L to gamma gamma$, $K_S to pi^0 gamma gamma$ and $K^+ to pi^+ gamma gamma$ decay modes. We briefly comment on its impact for $K_L to pi^0 pi^0 gamma gamma$, $K_L to pi^+ pi^- gamma$ and check its compatibility with the $K_L - K_S$ mass difference and the CP violating $epsilon^prime / epsilon$ parameter.

Résumé:
|
Kramers-Wannier dualities in lattice models are intimately connected
with symmetries. We show that they can be found directly and
explicitly from the symmetry transformations of the boundary states in the
underlying conformal field theory. Intriguingly the only models with
a duality transformation turn out to be those with an auto-orbifold property.

Logarithmic scaling for height variables in the Abelian sandpile model
|
|
Références:

Phys. Lett. B 607 (2005) 188-196
|
|
Résumé:
|
We report on the exact computation of the scaling form of the 1-point function, on the
upper-half plane, of the height 2 variable in the two-dimensional Abelian sandpile model.
By comparing the open versus the closed boundary condition, we find that the scaling field
associated to the height 2 is a logarithmic scalar field of scaling dimension 2, belonging
to a c=-2 logarithmic conformal field theory. This identification is confirmed by numerical
simulations and extended to the height 3 and 4 variables, which exhibit the same scaling
form. Using the conformal setting, we make precise proposals for the bulk 2-point
functions of all height variables.

Résumé:

We reconcile the $1/N_c$ expansion with the observed $eta-eta'$ mass spectrum. The chiral corrections introduced for that purpose are natural and consistent with the octet-singlet mixing angle $theta=-(22pm 1)^{circ}$ extracted from phenomenology in the large $N_c$ limit.

Boundary height fields in the Abelian sandpile model

|
Résumé:
|
We study the abelian sandpile model on the upper-half plane, and reconsider the correlations of the four height variables lying on the boundary. For more convenience, we carry out the analysis in the dissipative (massive) extension of the model and identify the boundary scaling fields corresponding to the four heights. We find that they all can be accounted for by the massive pertubation of a c=-2 logarithmic conformal field theory.

Résumé:
|
We study the finite-size corrections of the dimer model on
$infty times N$ square lattice with two different boundary
conditions: free and periodic. We find that the finite-size
corrections depend in a crucial way on the parity of $N$; we also
show that such unusual finite-size behavior can be fully explained
in the framework of the $c=-2$ logarithmic conformal field theory.
