FACULTY POSITION IN THEORETICAL PHYSICS

COSMOLOGY, ELEMENTARY PARTICLES AND FUNDAMENTAL INTERACTIONS

The Rector of the Catholic University of Louvain (UCL) in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, invites applications for a full-time academic position beginning in fall 2006. Applicants will have a Ph.D. or equivalent and postdoctoral experience in theoretical physics (cosmology, elementary particles and fundamental interactions). Rank and salary will depend upon qualification and experience.

The appointed candidate is expected to teach physics courses (undergraduate, graduate and/or postgraduate levels) in the university and to play a leading role in the theory research program on cosmology and particle physics.

Only a good knowledge of English is required initially but, since lectures are given in French, she/he should acquire a reasonable command of the language within two years. The involvement into teaching duties will be gradual.

Research activities pursued at UCL include tests of general relativity, the phenomenology associated with the standard model for electroweak and strong interactions, as well as the interplay between particle physics and cosmology. The successful candidate is expected to establish and lead an outstanding and original research program and to interact with the existing projects in cosmology and particle physics within the Center for Particle Physics and Phenomenology (CP3), http://cp3.phys.ucl.ac.be/
